Hope Adult Program

Program description

Hope through treatment, coaching
Many of our patients have had their mental illness for a number of years. Often, they have either not fully developed, or have lost, the healthy life and coping skills they need and desire. Our staff blends therapeutic approaches to teach and coach the use of adaptive skills.

We also rekindle the patients’ Hope that they can reach their potential and manage their symptoms.

First, we begin by stabilizing their symptoms and conducting a thorough assessment of their current and historical medical, psychological and social needs. Equipped with this insight, the treatment team develops and implements an ambitious, yet realistic treatment plan.

Our goals are to:

  • promote stabilization
  • evaluate diagnoses
  • rekindle Hope through psychotherapeutic methods and rehabilitation
  • design and implement a multi-dimensional treatment plan based on research-supported interventions
  • educate patients, as well as their families, about their illnesses, treatments and relapse prevention
  • assist patients with making a successful transition to their home community, and re-establishing and leading a rewarding lifestyle

Qualified staff offers specialties
The breadth of expertise among treaters enables them to provide comprehensive services. The team continues to expand specialty interventions. Current specialty options include:

  • psychiatric rehabilitation
  • small group psychotherapy
  • individual psychotherapy
  • dialectical behavior therapy
  • addictions groups and 12-step programs
  • cognitive-behavioral therapy

Following thorough assessment, the staff designs a course of treatment with a focus and length of stay specifically for the patient’s needs. The plan allows a patient to capitalize on their strengths and work on targeted areas of their life among peers and a caring, experienced staff.

On a weekly basis, patients and their treaters collaborate to set goals and monitor progress.

Treatment goals help patients understand their situation, increase their skills and prepare for success in the next steps of their life.

Informing family and other clinicians
Menninger encourages family members to accompany their loved one at admission. The family is also urged to participate in planning for treatment and discharge.

Family support and commitment are crucial to the successful treatment of patients in the program.

The primary clinician on the treatment team provides weekly progress updates to families and personal clinicians and coordinates visitation and family therapy over the phone and in person.

As a part of discharge planning, the family receives support for strengthening communication to help ensure a smooth transition when the patient returns home.

Support and assistance from family members are often vital to a patient’s successful aftercare. To help families, staff members offer education about persistent mental illness, advancements in treatment and research for these illnesses, relapse prevention, communication skills and family relationships.
